A while ago, we realized that there was a massive gender imbalance in VEX Robotics: most of the participants were boys. So in 2017, we began hosting workshops where girls, completely new to VEX, would learn how to build, program, and compete with robots (VEX VRC clawbots) in a matter of two days. These workshops introduce the participants to all the aspects of VEX and show them just how exciting robotics, and more generally, engineering can be. Many new VEX teams have been formed as a result of these efforts, and we are looking forward to expand and continue these efforts in collaboration with Google and the REC Foundation. Our long term goal is to inspire as many girls to join the amazing VEX Robotics community as possible, and more generally inspire them to pursue careers in technology and engineering.
